The White Horse Federation (TWHF), a multi-academy trust based in Wiltshire, is pleased to have been shortlisted in two categories in this year’s Tes Schools Awards 2025, dubbed the ‘Oscars of Education’.

The Tes Schools Awards recognise the very best teachers and schools from UK state and independent schools, across early years settings, primary and secondary.

TWHF has been shortlisted in the Inclusive Trust of the Year category, a new category recognising excellence at a trust level. The shortlisting recognises the shift in the culture, from the Trust using Alternative Provision, (external to the school environment) to utilising Internal Alternative Provision and the Inclusion Team - to support early identification. Shifting alternative provision from external providers to an internal alternative provision system offers several key benefits for schools and students, particularly in terms of control, quality, and student outcomes.

Timothy James, Director of Inclusion, said:

“TWHF is proud to announce that it has been shortlisted for the Inclusive Trust of the Year award — a new and prestigious category celebrating excellence in inclusion at the trust level.

This recognition highlights the transformative work of the TWHF Inclusion Team, whose innovative approach to Internal Alternative Provision along with the Trusts new Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Framework has redefined how support is delivered to vulnerable students, blending targeted academic intervention with tailored pastoral care. The model ensures all learners — regardless of background or need — can access high-quality education in a nurturing, supportive environment.”

Rodbourne Cheney Primary School in Swindon has been shortlisted in the Primary School of the Year Award category, recognising the school’s alternative approach to 'exceptional citizenship' and 'empowering leadership in action'. While traditional positions like Head Boy, Head Girl, and Prefects remain, the school goes further, offering all Year 6 pupils meaningful leadership roles, including IT Technicians, Young Carer Leads, Subject Leaders, and Play Leaders. This inspires younger pupils and creates a school-wide culture of aspiration and community.

Lisa Davies, Headteacher at Rodbourne Cheney Primary School, said:

"We're absolutely thrilled that Rodbourne Cheney Primary School has been shortlisted for Primary School of the Year at the TES Awards. This recognition is a true testament to our remarkable children, dedicated staff, supportive parents, and our wider school community. We're incredibly proud of our school, a place where every child feels a strong sense of belonging and pride."

Dr. Dan Nicholls, Chief Executive of The White Horse Federation, said:

“We are very proud to be shortlisted for two prestigious awards. We wish the very best of luck for both nominations and we are excited to hear what the outcome will be."

Jon Severs, Editor of Tes Magazine, said: “We’ve seen some incredible entries nominated in this year’s awards. The Tes Schools Awards are a highlight of the year, and it’s important that we properly recognise the fantastic work that's been done in education across the academic year.”

Winners will be announced on 20th June at a glittering gala at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London.
